Just today I decided to replace my old custom generated sitemap with the Drupal module available for the same purpose. So I downloaded XML Sitemap module and activated all of the sub-packages of the module along with the main one.
But it was only generating a single URL in the sitemap which was the home URL. Then I googled and found out that we have to include content Types explicitly in the sitemap by toggling the Included / Excludeddropdown in the Content Type (admin/structure/types/manage/content-type) settings.
Just keep on including other content types which you want in your sitemap. It will also let you select the update priority once you select Included.
